Professor Dr. Mohammad Lokman Hossain is a distinguished Bangladeshi academic, researcher, and university administrator, currently serving as the Pro Vice-Chancellor of Chandpur Science and Technology University (CSTU). He assumed this prestigious office on 23 July 2026, bringing with him over two decades of experience in higher education, scientific research, academic leadership, and university administration.
Born in Chandpur District in 1975, Professor Hossain completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Chemistry from the University of Chittagong, followed by MPhil studies at Jahangirnagar University. He earned his PhD in Organic Chemistry from Peking University, China, under the prestigious China Scholarship Council (CSC) scholarship, where his outstanding academic achievements earned him the Peking University International Students Academy Award (2013).
Professor Hossain began his teaching career in 2001 and served at several renowned educational institutions before joining the Bangladesh Civil Service (Education Cadre) in 2005. Following the establishment of Jagannath University, he became a permanent faculty member in 2008 and steadily advanced through the academic ranks to become Professor. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated excellence in teaching, research, academic administration, and institutional development.
An internationally recognized researcher, Professor Hossain's work spans Environmental Chemistry, Pollution Chemistry, Atmospheric Science, Organic Synthesis, Climate Change, Plastic Pollution, and Food Chemistry. He has published 26 peer-reviewed research articles, authored a Dictionary of Chemistry, achieved an h-index of 18, an i10-index of 21, and has received more than 1,260 citations. His research has been supported through numerous competitive grants from Jagannath University and the Ministry of Science and Technology, while he has successfully supervised a large number of postgraduate research students.
Beyond research, Professor Hossain has made significant contributions to university governance and academic leadership. He has served in numerous administrative positions, including conference secretary, committee member, examiner and question setter for the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC), reviewer for international journals, and project reviewer for the University Grants Commission (UGC). His leadership has been instrumental in strengthening academic quality, research collaboration, and institutional development.
Professor Hossain is an active member of several national and international professional organizations, including the Bangladesh Chemical Society and the South Asian Meteorological Association, and has played important roles in various academic and social welfare organizations.
On 23 July 2026, Professor Dr. Mohammad Lokman Hossain was appointed as the Pro Vice-Chancellor of Chandpur Science and Technology University. In this capacity, he is committed to promoting academic excellence, research and innovation, quality assurance, good governance, and international collaboration, with the vision of establishing the university as a leading center of higher education and scientific research in Bangladesh.
